what camera do you use?

Bought a JVC GY-DV500E with a Fujinon 14x lens, JVC b&w viewfinder and battery belt for ?4200 two months ago and am quite happy with it. Picture quality is excellent, sound could be better but as I intend to dub over anyway that doesn't matter so much - yet.

Wow ! Doesn't anybody else here shoot on film. For 4200 quid you could get a GREAT 16mm Camera.

Wait for it...wait for it....and shooting on Film is so much better than on video or digital video.

Most of my stuff is super8, then transferred to video. For the next part of my epic saga Im hoping to borrow or hire a 16mm, maybe a bolex.

You live relatively close to me. If you plan to shoot weekends, I would be glad to supply my camera and me to help out. For free and all. All you would need is stock. What I get out of it is experience with the camera. I also have a DAT recorder and a Stedicam JR (Well actually a Glidecam Pro, but who cares)

If however, you are filming during the week, then alas, I have to work.

That goes for anybody in the Southwest too. Anybody wants to shoot a short in Super-16 or 16mm I would be glad to help.

Well thanks very much! Ill definatley take you up on your offer, once all the pre-production has taken place. It would be good to have an experienced camera operator (other than me). It wont be a for a while though cos Im in the tail end of editing something else at the moment, but it would be weekends.
As I saifd in my email whenever you want some help with yours, let me know, I can do anything

I used to use the Sony 8mm video camera before I made the switch to film.

Shooting on film is all nice and dandy until it comes to the editing process - dv rules in that respect. I'd rather buy an expensive dv camera and complementing editing system and make it look filmlike with the appropriate programs instead of buying an expensive film camera and being unable to afford the edit gear to insert CGI and special/fx.

Besides, the SGI O2 I use can be easily upgraded to take CCIR601 and film input hence if I decide later on to shoot on film (and have the necessary cash for the expansion cards and software which cost a bloody fortune) I can still go down that route.

The problems start when you want to insert CGI or titles into shots. AFAIK the best way to do that is via a computer hence you need really expensive editing gear to get uncompressed film material in and out of the box.
